‘Dinner With Dave’ Has Gone Web 2.0

Well, apparently, that time has come…
First off, let me say I love the food and beverage industry. I love food, I love people and I love the frantic pace and unpredictability of a bustling shop on a busy Saturday night. It’s in my genetic code. So that’s why I’m starting this journey.
Am I here to talk about food? Hell yes! Is that all I’m going to talk about? Hell no!
Food is just one aspect of the biz. I’m going to talk about restaurant culture and all the good and bad things I’ve seen in my years in the business. I’m going to talk about the mistakes people make in the industry and, most importantly the ones I have made, and there have been a lot. I want to talk about good and bad owners, good and not-so-good management. I’m going to show a side of the business that is hidden barely under the surface, one you have to be in the industry to really see.
There are so many amazing shops out there with gracious owners and staff,
phenomenal food and a sincere approach to the biz. There are also the other
joints, the ones with the douche bag clientele and cuisine with the originality
and appeal of a urinal cake. They pop up then drop out, always chasing their
self-created genius that simply and sadly doesn’t exist. It’s a cycle of Sisyphean
proportions, less Greek but equally tragic. I’m going to call those guys out too.
On the way I hope to share some funny stories, explore some great recipes and allow
others to do the same. I want to wrap up restaurant culture with food, people and the
energy that goes into all of them. I will also honor and share my rich family history here
in California (much more on this later) as well and make the food of my youth part of the
equation.
The High Sierra is so important to me and I also want to share the food, stories and
voices I have been blessed to experience in the mountains. I can say without reservation
my time there over the past 16 years is the proudest achievement of my life.
Incorporating the vibrant music scene that is currently going on in Orange County is also
going to be an important part of what I’m doing. The scene is beyond a doubt the best it’s
been in 15 years, with a wide variety of musical genres being performed by a stunning
array of local artists. The Dinner with Dave event itself is also going to continue,
featuring many of these performers as well.
So, that begs the question, what is “this” exactly? Is it a blog? Nope! I’m a lot of things but desperate for attention is not one of them. Is it your run-of-the-mill foodie site? Absolutely not! I find most of them pedestrian anyway. Let’s think of it as a old cannon barrel filled with whiskey, coffee grounds, gunpower, bbq sauce, wasabi, salsa roja and a stand-up bass and it’s pointed strait at you! Most of all I’m proud and thrilled that you all are coming along for the ride,’cuz it’s gonna be a good one!
